How much does it cost to run a pump per year?

Electrical power in kW = GPM x total dynamic head x specific gravity x 0.746 / (3,960 x pump efficiency x motor efficiency). Multiply by operating hours and your electric rate. A pump moving 200 GPM against 80 feet of head at 65 percent pump efficiency and 92 percent motor efficiency draws about 5 kW, which is roughly 2,500 dollars per year at two-shift operation and 12 cents per kWh.

How much energy does a worn pump waste?

Wear ring clearance, impeller erosion, and running away from the best efficiency point commonly cost 10 or more points of efficiency. Dropping from 75 to 65 percent efficiency on a continuously running pump raises the power draw by about 15 percent, often thousands of dollars per year on larger pumps. Restoring the pump to spec recovers that money every operating hour.

What is a pump health check?

A pump health check measures flow, head, power draw, and vibration to establish where the pump is operating on its curve and how far its efficiency has drifted from spec. It identifies worn impellers, wrong operating points, and throttled valves, and puts a dollar figure on fixing each one before deciding on repair or replacement.
