Importance of Maintenance

Importance of Air Compressor Maintenance

Because of the essential work that air compressors do each day, their failure can lead to costly equipment downtime. Regular maintenance is a necessary measure to avoid these costs and keep your air compressors operating at peak performance.  Brabazon offers AirCare Plus™ Planned Maintenance with Remote Monitoring to help reduce downtime and extend the life of your air compressor. As part of this service, our technicians conduct 100-point inspections, vibration monitoring, and lubricant analysis. We also check and adjust control settings to ensure that your air compressor is running efficiently. Nothing beats a qualified technician keeping a close eye on your equipment.

Benefits of Remote Monitoring

In addition to regular maintenance, consistent monitoring of your air compressor system is another highly beneficial preventative measure. Remote monitoring allows you and/or external technicians to keep tabs on how your compressors are running and make helpful tweaks. As mentioned, our Planned Maintenance plan also includes 24/7 remote monitoring. This feature alerts our technicians when an air compressor experiences any performance issues. In many cases, these alerts allow for preventative maintenance measures, reducing the further development of problems that can demand more intensive repairs. The monitoring option comes with a monthly performance report for you to review and make adjustments to your system's operation to improve operational efficiency.

High-Quality Replacement Parts

Another way to ensure the ongoing operation of your air compressors is to use only top-of-the-line replacement parts. At Brabazon, we rely on high-quality parts for our repair work to promote the ongoing high performance of your air compressors while also avoiding premature wear and tear and costly repairs. Brabazon features an inventory of both air compressors and parts to use for repairs. We can source any necessary replacements quickly to get your air compressor up and running as soon as possible without sacrificing the quality or the long-term integrity of your equipment.

Brabazon’s Qualified Technicians

While regular maintenance, remote monitoring, and proper replacement parts are outstanding options for keeping your air compressor systems working at peak performance levels, the success of these measures is dependent on the qualifications of the technicians overseeing them. These qualifications should include certifications, ongoing training, experience, and familiarity with a variety of air compressor brands and models.  At Brabazon, we pride ourselves on the quality of our repair and maintenance technicians. They receive annual recertification involving factory-based and hands-on training. This requirement keeps our technicians educated on new air compressor models as well as repair techniques. Our technicians are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to diagnose and conduct air compressor repairs efficiently and with a customer service mindset.

Common Air Compressor Repairs Brabazon Handles Every Day

Our certified technicians at Brabazon's 14 Midwest service locations handle the full spectrum of industrial air compressor repairs — from minor service needs to major overhauls. Here are the repairs we're called for most frequently across Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and Missouri:

Airend Overhaul and Replacement: The airend is the heart of a rotary screw compressor — it's where the actual air compression takes place. Airend rebuilds require specialized expertise and tooling. Brabazon's technicians are trained on Sullair and other brand airends, and we perform complete rebuilds as well as replacements with new and remanufactured airend assemblies.

Oil System Failures: Low oil pressure, oil in the compressed air (separator failure), oil cooler fouling, and oil leaks are among the most common issues requiring repair. Our technicians carry common parts on their service vans to minimize turnaround time.

Electrical and Controls: Modern compressors are sophisticated machines with electronic controllers, pressure transducers, temperature sensors, and communication modules. Brabazon's technicians are trained to diagnose and repair electrical and controls issues — not just mechanical ones.

Inlet Valve and Capacity Control: A stuck or worn inlet valve causes a compressor to run continuously without properly loading or unloading, wasting energy and causing overheating. This is a common repair on older compressors that Brabazon handles routinely.

Emergency Compressed Air System Repair: Brabazon offers emergency repair services throughout the Midwest. When your production is stopped because of a compressor failure, call us. Our 24/7 emergency line connects you directly to a technician, and our stocked service vans are dispatched promptly from the nearest of our 14 locations.

Air Compressor Repair FAQ

How do I know if my compressor needs repair vs. replacement?
A general rule: if repair costs exceed 50% of the value of a replacement compressor, replacement is typically the better economic choice — especially if the unit is older than 15 years. Brabazon will give you an honest assessment. We don't push repairs when replacement makes more financial sense, and we don't push replacement when a repair is the right call.

How long does a typical air compressor repair take?
Minor repairs (valve replacements, filter changes, electrical diagnostics) are often completed in a single service visit. Major repairs like airend rebuilds may require the unit to be transported to our service facility for 3–7 days depending on parts availability. Brabazon can provide a rental unit to maintain your production while your compressor is being repaired.

Does Brabazon use genuine Sullair parts for repairs?
Yes. For Sullair compressors, Brabazon uses genuine Sullair parts to maintain warranty compliance and ensure the quality we stand behind. For other brands, we use OEM or OEM-equivalent parts depending on availability and your preference.

Is there an emergency air compressor repair line?
Yes. Brabazon's customer service team is available around the clock for emergency repair situations. If your production depends on compressed air and your compressor is down, call your nearest Brabazon location immediately. We serve all of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and Missouri from 14 strategic service locations.
